Randy Pobst K-Pax

Driver Blog:  Randy Pobst - Hot Weekend in St. Pete

By Randy Pobst - Photos by Michael Wong

2013 brings my seventh season with K-PAX Racing, five of which have been in the Volvo S60 R-Design. Amazing, how time flies. Whatʼs different about this season is that our deals all got rolling a lot sooner, so the K-PAX team was humming all winter, and we arrived in Florida more ready than we have ever been. This ainʼt no off-the-shelf Porsche, this Volvo has been entirely developed in the capable hands of 3R Racing-based K-PAX, in Denver, Colorado. We even did a couple pre-season tests, a real breakthrough for us. "Well, doesnʼt everyone?" you might ask, understandably. No, my friends, hardly anyone does. Racing always seems to come down to the last minute.

MotoIQ Radio: Scott Vanderheide, WTAC Selection Discussion, Bryan Min of Berk Technology, and Mini-Godzilla(?)

By Justin Banner and Kerryann De La Cruz

We didn't get much time to talk about it, but we'll have Scott Vanderheide of Nissan Race Shop and Project SHART on to talk about his weekend at Redline Time Attack Round 2 at Willow Springs Raceway. Then, Kerryann and I will talk about the new selection process for the World Time Attack Challenge. Could it be a great change or disaster waiting to happen? Then, we'll try to get Bryan Min of Berk Technology away from Carl Rydquist's drift car long enough to talk to us about it and what Berk Technology has going on. If not, then we'll talk about the new 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28. No, I won't go full redneck, maybe. Finally, we'll talk about a... well, I think Kerryann's R32 GT-R Godzilla had a baby. You'll have to listen in to find out more. Have questions for our guests or want to add your comments to the discussions? Type them in the comments or on the MotoIQ Facebook Page!

Project 240SX Land Speed Racer:  Flat Out on the Bonneville Salt Flats (Video)

By Chuck Johnson

It’s really easy for people to discredit going fast in a straight line.  Hell, I myself have been guilty of snickering at the thought of "run what you brung" night at the drag races.  I mean how much skill could it really take to hold a steering wheel straight and mash on the throttle for a ¼ mile?  The truth is though, it doesn’t matter if it’s driving in a straight line or around the same damn circle for hours. Click on the link to see the in-car video!

Modified StreetCar Shootoout Full Race S14

2013 Modified StreetCar Shootout - The Rules, The Cars, The Big Tease.

By Wes Dumalski and Sarah Forst

Like all good stories, this one starts on the airplane while on line for the shitter. I hear a voice come up behind me “my GOD this woman won’t shut the hell up”... I turn to fund the animated Bill Caswell and we begin bantering about this woman on the plane who had been talking about absolutely nothing at all for 2 hours. I am on this plane and talking to Bill Caswell because I could not get a refund on my Expedia package and rather than let the tickets go to waste I figured I could still head to Arizona and cover the UMS tuning time attack event and find some good feature cars. As luck would have it two complete car nuts are on the same plane heading to the same place to do the same damn thing; be geeks.

Project 370Z - Improving Grip by Tuning a Cusco RS LSD!

By Mike Kojima

So far with our Project 370Z we have been focused on dialing in the chassis.  After some track time, it has become apparent that the rear differential is the next handicap in achieving faster lap times.  Although the Z has a viscous limited slip diff from the factory,  our testing has found it to be highly inadequate.  In fact it is hardly a limited slip diff at all, allowing a lot of inside rear wheel spin, even out of medium speed corners.  In some street tire testing at Buttonwillow our lap time was being limited to the low 2:06 range for configuration 13CW.

MotoBlog:  Vibrant Intercooler Installation

MotoBlog Guest Post

As with almost anything in performance modifications, once you add a few items here, upgrade a couple things there, you soon find a new bottleneck. Some might have existed all along, as others introduced themselves as your project progressed. Case in point was the intercooler on Motovicity Rep Bryan Spears’ 2002 Miata project car.

Sebring 2013: The Following

Text and Photos by Mark Zimmerman

Photo Caption Bombing by Khiem Dinh

Walking through the infield of Sebring this past weekend made me start to think about the "it takes a village to raise a man" statement, and how Sebring has become that village for so many sports car fans. Just walking through the infield you see so many elaborate camping sites and communities that continue to return year after year. Sebring gives you the opportunity do so much more than just watch a race. You get to see old friends, make new ones, look at the rolling car show coming through the gates, take in some music and enjoy the nightly parties, get up close and personal with drivers and teams in the pits, see some great vintage sports cars, and watch one hell of a race. Sebring is not just a race, but an event, announcing that a new race season has begun.

Project Gen 3 STi - Impressions of the Turbosmart IWG75 and BPV

By Wes Dumalski

"Hey Bro, do you want to test some Turbosmart stuff?" The quoted text is from none other than Martin G from MotoIQ headquarters asking me if I would like to play with any Turbosmart products on our GR STi project. With this project still in the early and mild stages I first scratched my head wondering what I would be able to use and test. When I think Turbosmart I envision huge external wastegates on race cars and e-boost setups. Initially I wondered exactly what I could even use on the STi... Not wanting to miss an opportunity I perused their site and used their vehicle specific search feature to see what they had available.

By Justin Banner and Kerryann De La Cruz

Fresh from the Modified Magazine Street Car Shoot Out, Ken Suen joins us to talk about that even and some about "Big Red." We'll talk to Cody Parkhouse about that and his career in Open Desert Racing. Then Bryan Sellers joins in to talk about his 12 hours of Sebring with the Falken Tire Porsche. How did he do and what is it like running such a historic race? He'll tell all. Finally, yes, ladies and gentlemen, the rumors are true. Kerryann De La Cruz is back and maybe we can get her or Scott to talk about Project SHART. Listen in. Have questions for our guests? Type them in the comments or on the MotoIQ Facebook Page!
