Survivorman

There's this cool show on the Discovery Channel called "Survivorman". This dude is the real life MacGyver and Crocodile Hunter all in one. He goes to some desolate place some random place in nature, fakes an incident that could happen to any outdoorsman, and then the camera crew leaves him there. He has to survive for 7 days before the camera crew returns to pick him up. The idea is to show you how to survive in nature when you don't have shit on you and you're all by yourself. In the process of trying to survive, he's got to film everything by himself, talk to you (the viewer), find food, water, shelter, etc. This guy is buff. The show is a bit slow paced, but I couldn't turn t...

Hot Import Nights - March 24, 2007 Pomona, CA

I got a VIP pass to HIN last Saturday and I went to check it out with my buddies Troy (XS), Brett (Vivid Racing), and Jimmy (RHD Motoring). I haven't been to a HIN since the 2nd one ever I think. My has it grown. Let's just say that it's not exactly my scene. My buddies thought the same thing. Chingy the "hip-hop" artist was there on stage with his entourage. I put quotes around hip hop becuase today's hip hop isn't actually hip hop. It's hip pop, but that's another story. Anyhow, it was big, sponsored by Mazda, and there was a shit load of people. How would I sum it up? Lots of skanky models (most of which shouldn't be modeling), "show" cars, and vendor displays. Vendors like ...

Apexi Bergenholtz Racing Drift FD

I got a call from Apexi because they needed me to tune their drift FD. I got there and I was like WTF? The FD was painted JUST like the very first Bergenholtz drag CRX from the late 90's. I didn't know that Bergenholtz and Apexi jointed forces to run the drift FD. Mazda and Nitto are the title sponsors for now. It should be pretty interesting since Bergenholtz has the experience to run a race car and Apexi has the technology, the parts, and the car to go drifting. I've worked with the Bergenholtz brothers before when XS used to supply their turbochargers back in the day and they are a competent team (2 time NHRA FWD PRO champions). They also have Ryuji Miki, the 2004 D1 Champio...

New Lancer

I ran into an old drinking buddy Sam Mitani of Road and Track last night at Musha in Torrance. He gets to drive all the new cars before they come out. I only had my shitty cel phone to snap some super crappy pics. I didn't even bother taking pics of the rear because there wasn't enough light. The new Lancer is alright. It looks good compared to the current base Lancer. Its so big though, I'm not sure how good of an EVO X it's going to make. I hate it when manufacturers make the car bigger and heavier (like the BNR32 GTR to the BCNR33 GTR). Say goodbye to the good ol' 4G63 finally. The new Lancer sports the GEMA engine: Global Engine M...

My Super Street Interview

Now that the issue is finally off the newstands, maybe I don't have to take so much shit from everybody. It was good fun having had my 4 page interview published in the tuner world's biggest mag, but everybody I knew had a field day bagging on me about the whole "gangsta" theme. I had no idea it was going to come out that way, but oh well. Anyhow, here's a link to the entire interview fo...

The Best Blog in the World

DaTruth

This has got to be the best blog around. At least when you're talking about the tuner industry. I think it's fairly obvious DAHMESSENJAH is somebody within the industry, but nobody seems to know who it is. Regardless, his blog is fucking hilarious and it's very well written. I found out a...

Old School F1

Back in 1967, Keith Duckworth designed a Formula 1 engine called called the DFV. You'll notice that Duckworth is half of the name Cosworth (Mike COStin Keith DuckWORTH). The DFV is the winningest engine in the history of ALL motorsports (more on this later...). Anyhow, earlier in the week I spotted a DFX block that was getting ready to be sold to a vintage race car owner. The DFX is a later 2.65L turbocharged derivative of the DFV with a short stroke and big bore that was used in USAC and CART cars in the USA throughout the late 1970's and 80's.

Keith Duckworth was a genius that was way ahead of his time. This engine is now on its 40 year anniversary and...

Snow

I just got back from Mammoth Mountain yesterday evening. Snow boarding is the shit! That's all there is to it. It was my 4th time boarding, but this time I really got the hang of it. There's something about gliding over the snow at a speed which man is not supposed to that makes it fun. I guess that's the thrill of it. I can see how x-games athletes become adrenaline junkies. I went up with a bunch of my cousins and their friends. I had a good time hanging with my cousins and stuff. (excuse the shitty motorola RAZR pics)

LACMA and Rene Magritte

I'm not a museum or art type person, but I went to Los Angeles County Museum of Art last week and checked out the Rene Magritte Exhibition. I gotta say that some his art is pretty interesting. I read in pamphlets and programs many words describing his work: surrealism, post-modern, and contemporary. Regardless, it was pretty cool. You can't be doing car shit all the time. You gotta balance your life out (or try at least). Thanks to Mitsuko for taking me.
