Bad Idea or Brilliant? Inside the Rimicci Corse Fiat Abarth World Challenge Touring Car

Anthony Rimicci had an idea. After years of racing Alfa Romeos in vintage races across the west coast, the re-introduction of the Italian Fiat brand – and the fun-to-drive Fiat Abarth – to the North American market prompted him to build one for the SCCA’s World Challenge series,  to compete in the Touring Car class against the likes of Honda Civic Si’s, Mazdaspeed 3’s, and VW GTI’s. Could the Abarth, a small car even compared to that competition, be made into a World Challenge winner?

Project Scion FR-S: Suspension Part 1 - Getting the Basics with KW Suspension, Cusco and Race Comp Engineering

By Mike Kojima

With the FR-S engine giving us fits we decided to turn our attention to something different on the car, the suspension.  We were surprised with the FR-S, the ride in stock form was pretty darned stiff for a stock car, the car felt oversprung for the amount of low speed damping from the stock shocks but the ride felt harsh.  The car was also really tail happy, fun to drive but not the fast way around turns, especially on corner exit.  Perhaps the worst fault the car had was an odd shimmy on the freeway.  The car felt like it was following the rain grooves much like a motorcycle does.  It was a very unsettling feeling.

Finding Honda - A Rare Look at the Automaker's Private Collection

By Aaron Bonk

A dozen or so parking spaces with the word Honda hand painted in small block lettering along their curbs are all that reveals that this building has anything to do with the once Japanese motorcycle manufacturer turned carmaker. There is no Honda sign perched along the building's facade. There is no Power of Dreams-emblazoned welcome mat out front. There isn't a single thing about where Honda houses what it calls its Private Collection that would lead passersby to believe that behind the stark-white, nondescript, Torrance, Calif. structure lies the most thorough collection of Honda and Acura automobiles outside of the company's homeland.

NHRA Winternationals Finals Coverage

NHRA Winternationals Finals Coverage

By Justin Banner

When I was a kid, I used to go to the NHRA Virginia Nationals at Virginia Motorsports Park. I would stand on the fence and watch these cars fly by, I even witnessed the first Pro Stock to hit 200 MPH. Top Fuel and Funny Car would pound the ground with the TNT like explosions in their combustion chambers and the Nitro-Methane would hit you like tear gas. Never in a million years, at least at that time, would I think I would be so close that only a waist high wall about 6" thick would be all that was between me and these Goliaths of automotive nature. How fate has guided me to this point, I'll never know, but it has done so that I can bring you coverage of the NHRA Winternationals Finals for Pro Stock, Funny Car, and Top Fuel!

Project S2000: Testing Temps and Tools (Replay Camera and IR Pyrometer)

by Khiem Dinh

At my last track day, I got an IR pyrometer as a new toy for taking some data.  For this track day, I added a Replay XD1080 HD video camera to the mix to replace my previous camera (which met an untimely demise).  Furthermore, a few friends of MotoIQ were also in attendance to join in on some track day fun.  Video was taken and many temperatures were measured.  Keep on reading to see how the Replay works and different brake systems stacked up.

Industry Insider - Seibon Carbon

By Mike Kojima

Seibon Carbon is what we are defining as a second wave Asian performance parts company.   A few years ago, our booming performance industry was decimated by several factors, one of which was the economic downturn, another of which was a big influx of fly by night Asian companies that made cheap rip offs of established parts, distributing them with little overhead cost on Ebay and marketing them for free on Forums.

Driver Blog: Ryan Eversley

Welcome to my first blog for MotoIQ! This also could be my last blog for MotoIQ so let's at least make it memorable shall we? First off I promised my twitter followers that I would sneak five crazy words that they chose into the blog, so if you see anything that doesn't make sense just go with it. Second, I hate reading the same crap over and over again from everyone about how their race weekend went so I'll try and keep it light hearted but more importantly as real as possible.
