Autobacs, No Sorry Autobox

I realize that I have been lagging pretty hard on posting original material. If you notice, my last several posts have basically been rehashes of OPP (other people's.....property). Time is short at the moment with SEMA just 10 days away. I have been attending SEMA for 15 years straight now and every year I tell myself, "I'll get the cars ready a little earlier this year." Bullshit, no matter what I say it never happens.

Anyhow, today I bring you the latest in Chinaman robbery: Autobox. You read it right: AUTOBOX. Not the Japlish named AUTOBACS automotive supers...

Somebody sent me a link to this video. This video is very obviously not a Cosworth production so it's not a web marketing sneak attack or anything. Anyhow, its great to see real world performance improvements of a product you had a hand in. If you have an MX-5, you know you want one. If you don't want one, well you certainly own the right car already.

I got an email from Mike at Greddy today with a press release. Greddy USA filed for Chapter 11 today. Chapter 11 is a bankruptcy filing for reorganization. What this means to you is that business should continue as usual if supply chains are not interrupted. It will be tough for Greddy with all the banks around the world also suffering, but things should seamless and ok with some luck.

Motorcycle Engine Development

I was going through a search for Cosworth and found this site on motorcycle engine development for Honda 400cc road racing motorcycle engine. On this site, G-Force breaks down their road to developing this engine try by try. The general lesson to be learned here is that cheap parts do not work and research and development are the key to perfection. In the street car world, everybody thinks if they get some JE pistons and Eagle rods, they have the best engine in the world. Not so, my friend. Check out the site and learn that if you want the ultimate in performance, it is a painstaking experience that takes plenty of ...

The Good Wife's Guide

Here's a little break from the monotony of cars, engines, horsepower, and my incessant bitching about cheap ass Chinaman products and his cheap fuck customers. Eddie at Mackin sent me the best link of the week: The Good Wife's Guide from a 1955 newspaper clipping. Does anybody know how to build time machines because I definitely need one.

Cosworth Drag EJ257

Before I started working at Cosworth, the guys here were working on a "low budget" drag Subaru EJ257 engine program. The quotes are there because the term is relative. Low to one person may not be low to another. The budget was low compared to a real motorsport engine program, but probably considered high for the street car/weekend warrior crowd. EITHER WAY, PLEASE DO NOT CALL COSWORTH AND ASK FOR A DRAG SPEC ENGINE (unless you have 6 digits+ US$, not Japanese Yen of course). I'm not being a snob; I'm just saving you the pain of rejection. Anyhow, Cosworth was enlisted to build 2 engine programs: one gasoline and the other methanol. Pictured below is the methanol engine that made 1013...
