Nerd’s Eye View: LA Auto Show 2015 – Porsche

Before we get to the goodness under the rump of the new 911, we will have a glance at the latest track toy from Porsche. Enter the new Cayman GT4 Clubsport.

With the Clubsport, Porsche has already done all the track-prep work for you. Wire mesh fills all the front bumper openings to protect the heat exchangers from track debris. A large air vent is located at the front of the hood to help pull air through the radiator.
Of course, there’s a vent in the front wheel well for the heat exchanger mounted in the corner of the front bumper. I believe that visible behind the mesh is an electric fan.
At the base of the windshield is this carbon fiber duct. I am not sure if it is ducting air out or in… Being that the base of the windshield is a high pressure area, air may very well be going into it. Sorry I did not pay more attention to where it goes.
The Cayman GT4 Clubsport maintains a 5-lug setup instead of the single center-locking setup found on the big brother 911 GT3RS. The brakes are upgraded to a setup from Performance Friction. A little show car note, the ‘GT4’ on the wheel is properly orientated to be easily read.
The Clubsport has a differently shaped spat in front of the front wheel as compared to the street going variants of the Cayman. The Clubsport does feature the common Porsche brake cooling air guides mounted to the lower control arms.
