PRI 2015: Part 1

Garrett Turbos by Honeywell brought out a deranged, Garrett turbo-equipped Hearse that we’ll talk more about later.

Performance Racing Industry: Part 1

As a first-timer at last year's PRI show, I saw so much cool stuff that I had to return for 2015.  And the fact that I’m only a 6.5-hour drive from Indianapolis, Indiana, how could I not go? The only difference this year is that I got to bring the wife along (hey, I needed someone to carry all of my brochures!).

This year’s show proved just as good as 2014. While I was only able to spend a full two out of the three days there, I was able to gather up a heck of a lot more stuff than last year. In fact, this coverage is being separated into no less than six parts! So let’s not spend any more time breaking the ice—let’s get to the show!

If you came through one of the main entrances, you couldn’t miss AEM Electronics. They had a few cool new products to show us as well.

AEM’s new X-series digital gauge line features significantly larger displays with an overall depth of under and inch, and a cup depth of a ¼ inch for easy mounting. The company also reports that, when tested against 17 other major competitors’ wideband sensors, these AEM units showed the fastest response.

Some of the new gauges include Wideband control, 0-100 PSI Pressure, 100-300F temp sensor, 8-18 Volts, 0-1800F EGT, -35inHG-35 PSI boost, and 0-150 PSI pressure, to name a few.

AEM’s 4-channel wideband UEGO will work with up to 12 cylinders by daisy-chaining multiple units together via the firm's AEMnet. This system can be integrated with almost any data logger or engine management system through four differential analog outputs or the AEMnet datastream output.

AEM’s new X-Series widebands are part of the same X-series gauges mentioned earlier, and they feature the same, superfast X-digital technology.  As part of the X-Series line, these Wideband UEGO AFR sensor controllers (dual and single) are bound to make any tuner happy.

AEM has also released its new E85-compatible in-tank fuel pumps, which are direct fits for Honda Civic/S2000, Mitsubishi EVO/Eclipse, Subaru WRX and Scion FR-S/TC, to name a few. They're rated at 320 LPH. The AEM Vehicle Dynamics Module (VDM) on the right is an AEMnet CANbus-enabled device that has an onboard 3-axis accelerometer and gyrometer,. This allows AEM Infinity and AQ-1 Datalogger users to tune the chassis more intricately, since it works with GPS vehicle speed, position and altitude for accurate track-mapping!
