MotoIQ Radio: Mercedes Spat, the Purrari, and NASCAR’s Don’t Get Out Rule

MotoIQ RadioMotoIQ Radio: Mercedes Spat, the Purrari, and NASCAR's Don't Get Out Rule

by Justin Banner and Kerryann De La Cruz

Well, that didn't take long, just a few days after NASCAR implements the “don't get out of your car until instructed” rule, a driver violates that at Bristol. So, we'll talk about that and our experience with that rule at track days, along with why most major publications don't seem to understand that's a rule every where else in the racing world. We'll also talk about Ferrari vs Purrari, where Ferrari sent a “cease and desist” order to Deadmau5 about his “Nyan Cat” Ferrari. Then there is that spat between Mercedes teammates Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg that has some people mad at Nico, some mad at Hamilton, and most mad at Mercedes. We'll also have some quick news and notes of the week all on MotoIQ Radio. Got comments or questions tonight? Denny Hamlin

So, with all of the sad news out of the Sprint Car world and NASCAR's rule change to make getting out of your car after a crash a “no-no”; how long did you think it was going to take before one of them did it? Well, if you said only a few days, you were right because they went to Bristol, the worst place to implement that kind of rule. They didn't penalize Hamlin when he threw his HANS device at Kevin Harvic, but do you think they should have? Also, why does it seem like many major publications think this was such a new and unheard of rule despite us track day, autocross, drifting, and road racing people have heard about this type of rule for most of our lives?

Deadmau5 purrari

So, in more ways to make you hate Ferrari, they sent popular, uh, “progressivehouse music” producer Deadmau5 a “cease and desist” order about his Ferrari 458 “Purarri”. Why, nobody seems to know other than Deadmau5's response on Twitter about the badges and floor mats. If Ferrari was on a bad PR hunt, they sure hit their target on this one.

Nico Rosberg

Pleanty of controversy in F1 with more issues coming from Mercedes Benz. This time, instead of team orders, it would be Nico Rosberg clipping and puncturing Lewis Hamilton's left rear tire. Was Nico trying to make a point or did Hamilton try too hard and it was just a racing incident?
