Land speed racers are a special breed with the drivers of streamliners having an especially fortified sense of bravery. They sit encapsulated in a small cockpit with a tiny windshield travelling a few hundred miles per hour with their butt inches off the ground. Those with claustrophobia need not apply.

The heart of this beast is a special concoction devised by Doug Macmillan of Hondata. The Honda K24 engine block started life in a 2006 Acura TSX. It was rebuilt by Mission Critical Performance using a Honda S2000 AP1 crank destroking the engine to 2.1L. Cunningham rods and CP pistons make up the bottom-end of the engine and have been treated to Embee Performance thermal and anti-friction coatings.
Force feeding this hybrid engine is a Garrett by Honeywell GTX4502R turbocharger with an air-to-water intercooler setup to bring down the charge temps. Very extensive thermal insulation of all the hot parts was provided by Advanced Thermal Products, Inc. You may have heard of them as ATP Inconel heat shields.
Individual EGT probes were installed for each runner of the exhaust manifold.
A boost reference signal was tapped at the compressor outlet of the GTX4502R. A whole crate of Earl’s Plumbing fittings and braided lines are used all around this vehicle such as for the coolant line to the turbocharger.
Doug is very detail oriented… Note all of the meticulously bent hard lines for the turbo’s oil feed and coolant lines.
