Back in the Cold War between the United States and Russia each party built a vast array of military nuclear weapons, large armies of troops, and superior technology in a race for global superiority. Even though no war actually took place a great deal of time, money, and effort went into building the ultimate military machine.  Right now the Redline Time Attack series is no different except larger turbos, stickier tires, and exotic titanium parts take the place of bigger warheads.

Even though fist fights aren’t breaking out in the pits every team is closely watching what the other teams are up to and keeping close tabs on what new developments are taking place in the pits.  The Time Attack machines have progressed to the point where they are dropping last year’s records in practice on used tires with ease.

The latest display of technological automotive superiority took place at the Redline Time Attack Liberty Grand Prix at Willow Springs Raceway over the fourth of July weekend.  Competitors raced on the 2.5 mile high speed track that features sweeping 140mph turns and speeds in excess of 160mph.

In the D-Sport Super Modified Class, the mystery driver G-Stig in the GST Motorsports Subaru Impreza, blew his competitors out of the water with a 1:20.759 time which was good for 1st in class, 1st overall, and a 1st in the super session wheel to wheel race.

The team over at GST very narrowly missed the previous Super Mod AWD record set last year by Sierra Sierra Enterprises by 3/10’s of a second.  A commendable feat since the motor was in pieces getting rebuilt at the track at Autoclub Speedway in Fontana last month.  Coming in second overall, Gary Sheehan subbing for Chris Rado in the World Racing Scion tc with a 1:22.649.  Even with G-Stig’s outstanding performance, Billy Johnson in the FXMD Acura NSX still holds the track record at, 1:18.555.
