WATCH: Project C7 Corvette Stingray Z51 Baseline Track Test 

So, you read the Part 1 of our introduction to Project C7 Corvette Stingray and probably watched Mike Kojima give us all of the engineering explanations under the chassis. You even read the in-depth breakdown of the LT1 engine. All of this information is great, however, what does it mean for the performance on a racetrack?

We gave our test driver, Karla Pestotnik, a few hot laps to give us some insight and a baseline lap time before we add any performance upgrades in 100% stock form. We hit the tarmac with our friends at Global Time Attack at a Buttonwillow Raceway 13 CW (clockwise) configuration time attack event.


Project DC2 Integra: Starting the Journey Toward Better Lap Times with KW Suspension

If you've been paying attention to our DC2 project car, then you know in the last installment we took our car to Buttonwillow Raceway (CW13) to record its baseline lap times and to get some driving impression of its 150,000-mile suspension and tires. Surprisingly the old DC2 was not horrible and not the slowest car entered in Global Time Attack's first ProAm event of the year. 

However, we never settle for "good enough" at MotoIQ, so we're outfiting our Integra with a set of KW Suspension Variant III coilovers as we embark on the journey towards better lap times.

Admittedly, none of us on Dai Yoshihara's Formula D team have much experience with alcohol. We all knew methanol was a superior fuel but highly corrosive. We knew it would require a lot of post event maintenance, which would include pickling the engine and fuel system by draining the methanol and running gas through the system to remove the methanol. However, we didn't expect to run into the issues that we did. We needed a solution and were recommended some things from other teams' crew chiefs that all came down to one thing.

Project C7 Corvette Stingray: Introduction Part 2, A Closer Look at the LT1 Engine

In the last edition of Project C7 Corvette Stingray, we were doing an overall look at the car including it's mostly all new LT1 engine. As we were saying, although the LT and LS share the same architecture, they are indeed very different engines. They are so different that they only share a handful of parts. 

The LT1 is a vastly different engine that has a lot of development differences over the already excellent LS3 engine and deserves a closer look at some of its unique internals. Most of the differences are to improve fuel economy, emissions, torque and powerband width, but there are are some tweaks to make more power overall as well. Take a close, detailed look with us!


WATCH: Project C7 Corvette Gets an AEM AQ-1 OBDII Data Logger! 

Just like Project DC2 Integra last week, we're taking our Project C7 Corvette out to Buttonwillow in 100% stock form for some lap testing courtesy of our friends at Global Time Attack.  Unlike the Integra--who's too old to know what a CANbus is--we're installing an AEM AQ-1 OBDII data logger in the Vette before we hit the track.  AEM's AQ-1 OBDII Data Logger is easy to install and logs engine data transmitted from the CANbus signal feed in the OBDII port of any 2008+ vehicle.  The AQ-1 also has a 3-axis accelerometer built in so we'll be able log g-force data as well!  Take a look at today's video to learn more about it and see how easy it is to install!  And remember to swing by again next week for the results of our C7 baseline track test before we install all the Chevrolet Performance parts heading our way!

Event Coverage: Red Bull Global Rallycross Indianapolis

MotoIQ and Global Rallycross go quite a way back. In fact, all the way back in 2009 Dave Coleman gave us a peek at the Olsebergs Fiesta engines and just a couple years ago our chief nerd was in the pits at the Long Beach GRC race and brought us An Inside Look at mountune's GRC Ford Duratec Engine. GRC is much like the circus: they pop-up in town, put on a show, and leave without a trace. Well, if you don’t count a bunch of skid marks as a trace. GRC has hosted a ton of new events in the Midwest this year including in Louisville, Memphis, and Indianapolis. I'm in Kentucky so attending the Louisville race would have made much more sense for me, but I was a bit preoccupied that weekend covering the IndyCar Grand Prix. So to get my rallying fix, I took the drive north to Indianapolis.

Project V8 RX-7: Part 17 – Eimer Engineering Arms, Wheel Spacers and the Hunt for Perfect Stance

In our last articles about Project V8 RX-7, we left you last with photos of our new SSR Professor SP4 wheels and Toyo R888 tires looking flush, but we weren’t ready to explain how we accomplished that task yet. With our Rocket Bunny aero kit giving us a huge space in the wheel wells to fill, we were going to take advantage of all of that.

Our car had to use all of the space for wide wall-to-wall rubber. More rubber means more grip, and with our LS3 providing the torque and power to use it all, we were obligated to do so. However, just putting wide rubber on a car not designed for it creates a few technical issues that, since we are MotoIQ guys, have to be engineered out of the equation. This means the typical spacer to fit and beat to match approach was not going to be a solution.

First iterations of new technologies are rarely flawless. When the Mustang ditched the solid axle in 2015 in favor of a 21st century Independent Rear Suspension, it transformed into a modern-day sports car with greatly improved ride quality and handling dynamics. Unfortunately, the new diff and subframe are mounted with soft, compliant rubber bushings that cause a significant wheel hop when launching the car and unwanted toe changes in corners. This affects drag and road racers alike. In order to eliminate these issues, we tested Steeda Autosport’s Ultimate ‘Stop the Hop’ Package and Adjustable Differential Bushing Insert System.
