Well I'm glad to see the QR's got a little redemption. I was confident in my decision to buy a Spec V, I thought of it as a spiritual successor to my mk2 VW 16V. It was my first new car as well. But barely 9 months later I came across my first WRX.

The QR motor is a good motor, people simply expect too from them, or just don't know that it takes a little know how to make them hold over twice the stock output with a turbo and not break stuff, which they will do just fine. They don't even grasp the concept that dropping in bigger injectors and tweaking out twice the power w/o tripping a check engine light or having to do anything much else to keep the ECU happy is a testament to the car its self and the lack of headaches in doing so is a blessing. Sure Nissan had some serious issues with some dumb design features, mostly emissions related, but the improvements made in the mid 2004 model year did a lot to end those problems.

The aftermarket still sucks, but it's a byproduct of lack of intelligence, ingenuity, and willingness to spend money that has kept it that way. In NA form the motor still has serious limitations mainly because of the aforementioned intelligence deficit and and lack of money to spend, companies simply don't want to do jack, and I don't blame them. 7 years in production and there are no verifications of any NA motor (save for RTR) passing the 200WHP mark, sad, especially seeing they are rated at 180 from the factory and have such a large displacement.

I should be working with a car racing time attack in NASA to put together a decent NA race motor for next season, we'll see what comes out of it.

all very true...great job with your car and Mike S's project...looking forward to following you and Smoking Joe...

Finally going to to be extending the CAN wires to the OBD port and flashing the ECU with a patched ROM so I can tune my ECU via laptop. Think Hondata or HPtuners for newer Nissan ECU's by way of UpRev's Osiris software and cable. Hello 7k redline, goodbye SAFC.
