A Tribute to Nicky Hayden: The Kentucky Kid, The Champion of Champions

by Khiem Dinh

It has been some number of days now since Nicky Hayden passed away in a cycling accident. The world of motorsports still hurts with the void left behind. The Kentucky Kid, as he was known, was special in the high profile world of top-level motorsport athletes. His character, his work ethic, his love of riding and racing, his easy-going personality, and the time he made for his family and fans is what puts Nicky a step above any other athlete in motorsports. It is said over and over Hayden was the nicest guy in motorsports. He was the commensurate professional and never spoke negatively of anyone.

NX GTi-R: Hill Climb Edition

by Frank Ewald

Two years of wait time is over. With the car now running and putting down reasonable horsepower, it was time to dust off my driving gear and check out how rusty my skills had become. The NX GTi-R was pulled out of AES Auto, loaded up on my tow dolly, and started the trek east down the Trans-Canada Highway and Coquihalla Highway to Kelowna, B.C. and the home of Knox Mountain Park. This was the location of my next bucket list adventure, the Leavitt Machinery Knox Mountain Hill Climb.

Event Coverage: 2017 Indianapolis 500 Carb & Legends Day

by David Zipf

If you’ve followed our coverage of the Indy 500 here for the last couple years, you may have been mistaken for thinking that there isn’t much to do on Indy weekend aside from...you know...watch the race.  But that is where you would be mistaken.  The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has dedicated a lot of time and resources into turning the Indy 500 into a three day event, celebrating tradition, speed, and teamwork.  If you’re planning to attend the 500, plan to call in sick and spend Friday and Saturday enjoying the sights and sounds of Indy.

Analyzing Turn by Turn- the Leavitt Machinery Knox Mountain Hill Climb Course Technical Analysis

by Frank Ewald

The cover photo is of Wouter Bouman's 916 whp 3-rotor Mazda that put down 916 whp the week prior to the event while. During this anniversary edition of Knox Mountain Hill Climb, Wouter captured the overall victory and set a class record in the process. This is the 60th running of the Knox Mountain Hill Climb hosted by Leavitt Machinery. To this writer's knowledge, this is the oldest continuously running hill climb event in North America. The parkland at the start line quickly changes to the mountainous terrain that you can see in the background. That should give you a hint for what is in store.

A lot of you might be familiar with AntiGravity Batteries as the supplier of ultra light and powerful Lithium Ion batteries used in Motorsports. Their batteries have been used by us in a few of our projects, and most of our personal race cars sport their batteries.

Event Coverage: 2017 Indianapolis 500 Qualifying

by David Zipf

Week one of “The Greatest Month in Racing” started with left and right turns, kicking off with the IndyCar Grand Prix last week. This week, the right turns are abandoned and the focus is on nailing down the fastest time at one of the fastest tracks on Earth. One week of practice leads up to two days of qualifying for the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 Presented by PennGrade Oil.

Nissan NX GTi-R V. 3 Continued

by Frank Ewald

You have either been waiting for a year for this update or you are not even sure of what the NX GTi-R is. Of course, a minority may be saying not again but you will have to endure my writing about my favourite car. For those of you who have been waiting, it has been a challenging couple of years but, with the help of AES Auto, things are moving in the right direction. For those of you who are not familiar with this project, this one owner Nissan NX1600 comes with a pedigree earned in the school of hard knocks. The SR20DET swap took place about five years ago and it has been an ongoing learning process - and I must admit I have made some mistakes along the way. When a cracked oil pump took out the engine in 2015, it was time to sit down and really think through the process.

2017 Formula Drift Pro - Road Atlanta

by Erik Jacobs

14 years. It has been 14 years since Formula D first came to Road Atlanta. It's the first place the series ever went, and yours truly even got to drive in it. But, things have changed a lot since that first event long ago. The cars, the drivers- it has all come a long, long way.

2017 Formula Drift Pro2 - Road Atlanta

by Erik Jacobs

Formula Drift's Pro2 series is a relatively recent creation, in comparison to the big show's 14-year history. But do not mistake its youth for innocence. The level of attention to detail in the preparation of the cars and the skill of the drivers are nothing to shake a stick at. Making it to the Pro2 show represents a significant achievement, and the competition is fierce. Here's how the Road Atlanta round of the 2017 Formula Drift Pro2 series shook out.
