K&N Mustang American Iron RTR

Fully Filtered: Dave Martis’ K&N Engineering Ford Mustang RTR

by Justin Banner

NASA’s American Iron series is the modern equivalent of the Trans Am Series of the 60's and 70's; where Ford, GM, and Mopar cars slug it out in American Iron (AI) and the cars follow a weight to power ratio much like our own MPTCC series. In addition to AI, NASA also has classes for American Iron Extreme (AIX), where rules are more lax and horsepower gets insane; and Spec Iron (SI), where cars are built to one specification with the 05-10 Ford Mustang being the only chassis allowed. Dave Martis competes in the AI class with his K&N Engineering Ford Mustang RTR and has allowed us to show you the details of his amazing ride!

Cycling: A Year Later, Getting Faster

by Khiem Dinh

The MotoIQ crew has been busy this past year on two wheels of the self-powered variety. One of the goals was to get in better shape to be more effective at motorsports. The other goal was just to have fun and being relatively safe while we were at it. Cycling helped me in other ways too. See what I learned this past year doing the pedal-power thing and the data to back up my claim of better fitness.

It's the Grand Prix of Long Beach and that means Formula Drift kicks off round 1. I'll talk about that and we'll look into the Motegi Super Drift this Saturday. Then we'll have Brian Kleeman of Monsoon Motorsports to talk about the challenges of World Challenge GTS in such a tight street circuit. Formula Drift 2014 Round 1 – Long Beach

by Justin Banner

Formula Drift was on a good roll with Qualifying going off without too much of a hitch. The pace of the event was perfect and despite the huge power numbers, cars were holding together so far. Will competition day continue this trend or would there be bumps due to new cars, drivers, and engines?

Blacktrax Performance S2000 Motorsport Makeover: Part 1 - Basic Chassis Preparation

by Edward Hu

To start off 2014, the TunerPlayground and BlackTrax Performance team have huge plans for overhauling their time attack Honda S2000, nicknamed “Irene.”  In the past few years, Tom Tang, TunerPlayground founder, has showcased just how capable he and the car are at events such as Global Time Attack at Buttonwillow, where it ran a 1:56 in the CW13 configuration, all while retaining street-driven status. Above is a “before” photo.

This year, however, Irene is going all out. TunerPlayground Motorsports is aiming to participate in wheel-to-wheel, hill climb, and time attack events. These include, but are not limited to: NASA USTCC, Honda Challenge, SCCA Run-Offs, Global Time Attack, Redline Time Attack, Super Lap Battle, MotoIQ MPTCC, Hoopa Hill climb, and eventually, even Pikes Peak.

Project G20: Making it Stick With APR’s Wing and Splitter

by Steve Rockwood

Project G20’s an aerodynamic disaster. It’s blockish shape leads to a car that makes masonry look sleek. As a result of poor aero combined with suspension balance in line with “loose is fast, don’t be a <sissy>”, we needed all the APR aero help we could to tame this bronco.
